Millwall secured an emphatic 3-0 victory over Preston North End at The Den, marking their second win of the season with a dominant display.
Goals from George Honeyman, Romian Esse, and Macaulay Langstaff ensured the Lions took all three points, as Neil Harris’ side outclassed their visitors from start to finish.
The breakthrough came in the 24th minute when Honeyman scored his second-ever goal for Millwall. Macaulay Langstaff, who was a constant threat throughout the game, provided a well-timed pullback, leaving Honeyman to tap the ball into the net from close range and give the Lions a deserved lead.
Millwall’s dominance continued, and they doubled their advantage in the 38th minute with a memorable moment for 18-year-old Romian Esse. Duncan Watmore delivered a perfectly placed cross, and Esse showed great composure to round Preston goalkeeper Freddie Woodman before slotting the ball home, securing his first-ever goal at The Den.
The Lions extended their lead just two minutes into the second half. Langstaff, who had been searching for his first Millwall goal, finally got on the scoresheet. Honeyman was involved once again, delivering a pinpoint cross that Langstaff calmly converted in front of the Cold Blow Lane end, effectively sealing the victory for the hosts.
Millwall had already shown their intent early in the match, with Japhet Tanganga, George Saville, and Joe Bryan all seeing efforts blocked in the opening stages. Preston, meanwhile, struggled to cope with Millwall’s intensity but had brief moments of promise. Lukas Jensen made a crucial save in the 29th minute to deny Brad Potts, while Will Keane headed wide from a Josh Bowler cross just a minute later.
Preston’s best chance in the second half came through Bowler again, but his effort at the back post, following a cross from Duane Holmes, was off target. Will Keane also saw a header blocked by Jake Cooper as the visitors tried to salvage something from the game, but it wasn’t to be.
The only blemish on Millwall’s afternoon came late on when Aidomo Emakhu, after being booked for simulation, was shown a straight red card for his reaction, engaging in an altercation with a Preston defender. The Lions had to play the final minutes with ten men, but the damage was already done.
Preston managed to grab a consolation goal in the 87th minute through Jordan Storey, who finished from close range following a scramble in the box. However, it was too little, too late for the visitors, as Millwall comfortably saw out the game.
