MILLWALL secured back to back wins for the first time since October and moved up to fifth in the Championship table after a 2-1 win over Swansea on Tuesday evening.

Goals from Tom Bradshaw, his 14th of the season and Andreas Voglsammer sealed looked to have the Lions in control but just three minutes later Matt Grimes’ strike was deflected in by Ryan Manning to set up a tense finish.

Gary Rowett named the side that beat Reading at the weekend, with George Long starting in goal, a back four of Danny McNamara, Charlie Cresswell, Jake Cooper, and Murray Wallace. Two in midfield were Ryan Leonard and George Saville, and an attacking three consisted of George Honeyman on the left, Zian Flemming in the center, and Voglsammer on the right, with Bradshaw starting up front.

The first half was not one that will be remembered for it’s entertainment  20 minutes in, Manning found Liam Walsh outside the box, but his shot did not trouble Long. Seven minutes later, Swansea’s top goal scorer Joel Piroe found Manning, who did force a save from the Lions keeper. The hosts’ best chance of the half fell to Voglsammer but he headed Flemming’s cross wide.

The first half was a tough watch but the second started in great fashion, as the Lions took the lead just three minutes into it. Leonard’s long throw into the box caused a scramble, Cresswell found the ball at his feet, took on the shot and thanks to a deflection from Bradshaw found the back of the net. Seven minutes later, Flemming found Honeyman who despite his loose first touch managed to see the ball through to Voglsammer’s who’s deflected effort left Swan’s keeper Andy Fisher red faced and his side 2-0 down.

However, only three minutes later, Grimes’ effort from the edge of the box was deflected into the net by Manning with Long wrong footed.

Cresswell could have added to the scoreline but he headed Honeyman’s corner wide.

Swansea huffed and puffed towards the end but were unable to force Long into anymore saves and the Lions held on for a vital win in the battle for the top six.

The result leaves Rowett’s men fifth in the table ahead of Wednesday night’s matches.
