Millwall claimed a dramatic 3-2 win over Coventry City at The Den on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions found themselves 2-0 down thanks to goals from Kyle McFazdean and Matt Godden. However, Jake Cooper and George Honeyman both found the net to level the tie at 2-2 before George Saville scored a dramatic late winner.

It was a nightmare start for Millwall as Coventry took the lead from the game’s first corner. McFazdean heading home as Millwall were all at sea.

The offside flag denied the visitors a second after Godden had put the ball in the net. He would not have to wait long, though, as, on 28 minutes, he doubled the lead. Jake Bidwell’s inch-perfect cross found the unmarked former Ebbsfleet man who finished well past Bartosz Bialkowski.

A bit of luck came Millwall’s way on 36 minutes. A moment of madness from Coventry goalkeeper Simon Moore saw him come charging right to the edge of his penalty area, only for Jake Cooper to head home and bring the Lions back into the game.

Chances came and went for Coventry without them being able to add to their lead. That would be something they would regret in the second half.

Despite being second best, the Lions roared themselves level. Tyler Burey’s stunning effort came back off the post and fell perfectly for George Honeyman to tap in and bring the Lions level.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when they were reduced to ten men. Gustavo Hamer was given his marching orders after picking up his second-afternoon booking for a foul on Danny McNamara.

Gyokerers was a pain in the rear for Millwall all afternoon, and he almost made it 3-2 but was denied by a great save from Bialkowski.

Millwall completed the comeback five minutes from time. Another ball into the box was taken down brilliantly by Benik Afobe, who set up substitute Saville to calmly slot home past Moore to give the Lions all three points.
