Joe Edwards is Millwall’s new head coach.
The England under 20’s coach is the Millwall’s board’s choice to replace Gary Rowett who left the club after four years in charge last month.
He and Nathan Jones were the final two under consideration for the job after the club whittled down their shortlist towards the end of last week.
The announcement will be confirmed by the club in the next 48 hours with the former Chelsea coach set to take charge at Sheffield Wednesday next weekend.
Edwards worked in the Chelsea youth setup before he was appointed to the first team under Frank Lampard. He stayed at the club and worked under Thomas Tuchel until he was sacked and replaced by Graham Potter.
He then rejoined Lampard when the former Derby manager was appointed as manager of Everton in 2022, and then again during Lampard’s caretaker spell at Stamford Bridge at the end of last season.
The 37 year old was confirmed as the England U20’s head coach on a caretaker basis until the end of 2023 in the summer but will now leave that role to take up the position at The Den.
It is understood at Edwards will bring Chelsea’s Loan Player Technical Coach Andy Myers in as his assistant head coach.
