There’s plenty of words you could use to describe Murray Wallace – but I think the perfect one that sums up his capabilities is “robot”.

Every time the defender is faced with a problem, he passes with flying colours – whether that is a new position, an influential player to mark or going forward.

For a tall guy, Wallace is deceptively quick and has that touch of class when playing at left-wing back to pass his opposite number with skill and a little drop of the shoulder as well as a cruyff turn every so often.

The 29-year-old signed with the Lions from Scunthorpe in 2018 and for the first couple of months struggled for minutes and to make an impact.

But from January 2019, Wallace really came into his own element. Scoring the winner against Everton in the last minute felt like a moment where his confidence shot up.

Following on from that, especially under Gary Rowett he has been utilised in a back three as well as covering at left-back when Scott Malone was unable to play.

Wherever the “robot” plays he shows his versatility and strength. The Glasgow born defender really understands the philosophy of a back three and has thrived with partners such as Jake Cooper, Shaun Hutchinson and Daniel Ballard.

The next subject which has to be on his radar and fans like myself can’t believe he hasn’t already been given the opportunity is a Scotland cap.

Wallace’s attributes, strengths and hard work has gone unnoticed a little bit by the Scotland football hierarchy but if he keeps plugging away like he has been doing a call-up can’t be far away, surely?
