After a much needed but well spirited 1-0 win at home to an impressive looking Stoke City, the lions will be looking to back that up with another impressive performance and result against Birmingham City at St Andrews on Saturday lunchtime.
Another one of Gary Rowett’s old clubs, the Blues have kick started a new era at their club in emphatic fashion and are one of the only 3 remaining clubs in the division to remain undefeated so far this season. After a last gasp winner against Plymouth Argyle, courtesy of loanee Jay Stansfield.
Ones to watch
Birmingham have been very active in the transfer window with a summer rebuild and have added some creative flair with the likes of Tyler Adams, Siriki Dembele and Jay Stansfield being added to the ranks. As well as star strikers Scott Hogan and Lucas Jutkiewicz who have caused the lions all sorts of problems in previous fixtures.
Another one to watch out for is highly rated youngster George Hall who has been tipped by blues fans and pundits alike to be another player to keep an eye on this season. A nifty midfielder, Millwall’s midfield will need to be on their toes to keep him at bay.
The difference makers
Rowett’s unusual tactic of playing 2 strikers paid dividends as it saw Kevin Nisbet open his Millwall account against Stoke City. Him and Tom Bradshaw formed a complimenting partnership together and could be on track to start again on Saturday in the hope of continuing their momentum.
This wouldn’t be complete without Millwall talisman Zian Flemming, who provided the assist for Nisbet’s winning goal and looks to have gotten back into his rhythm in the number 10 position. Where he thrived last season. Additionally, new right wing-back Brooke Norton-Cuffy caused havoc on the right-hand side in his Millwall debut and will be looking to cause the Birmingham left back the same problems on Saturday.
The last time we met
In a frustrating encounter, the lions slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat back in April due to a mix up between Danny McNamara and George Long seeing Lucas Jukiewicz net the only goal in the first half.
What the bookies think
Bookmakers SkyBet are currently predicting Birmingham will continue their unbeaten start after 3 wins in a row. They can be backed at 13/10 with Millwall coming in at 11/5.
